Synths, soul and samples with Disclosure

If space-age synths, deep house-beats, and Malian soul is your thing, Disclosure’s new track ‘Ultimatum’ is for you; returning from their 2017 hiatus with Malian artist Fatoumata Diawara.

The UK electronic duo (Howard & Guy) have taken to Twitter to announce their surprise sample having stumbled across Diawara’s Wassoulou folk sound. Diawara, a Paris-based singer-songwriter, is best-known for her 2011 album ‘Fatou’; exploring war, female genital mutilation (FGM), and polygamy to great acclaim in music circles. Considering the commercial success of Disclosure’s debut album ‘Settle’ (2013), featuring dance floor-fillers with AlunaGeorge, and Sam Smith, their latest collab and sound is unexpected. However, ‘Ultimatum’s’ blend of cultures, genres, and native tongues is nothing short of groovy and may be the soundtrack to your next dance break. Watch this space: Disclosure are back …
