To all the queens out there: This new one from slenderbodies is for you.
At Majestic Journal, our “Fresh Sounds” feature aims to showcase not just the latest tracks from our favorite up-and-coming artists, but those doing things differently. In our latest feature, we’re raising a glass to the queens with slenderbodies’ latest single, “king.”
slenderbodies, a California-based indie pop duo that strictly spells their band name and track titles in all lowercase letters, has capitalized the feeling of overcoming paranoia and self-doubt in their most recent single, “king.” The single is from their upcoming EP “SORAYA,” scheduled to release in early 2019.
Contrary to the title of the song, “king” is dedicated to all of the queens out there. With extensive talk of women's rights and equality in the present day, female empowerment is one of the hottest topics du jour across the globe, and the guys behind slenderbodies are fully on board with it. Instead of singing about one woman who guises as the primary love interest in your usual song, “king” is about a motley of women that represent various significant roles within the duo’s lives.
Max Venuhi and Benji Barsocchini, the two musicians who make up slenderbodies, are known to write, record, mix, and produce all of their own work, and the duo delivers spectacularly with “king”; sensuous vocals, over a beat that is simultaneously breezy and upbeat, make it a go-to track to either dance along to or listen to casually (or both). The variance between the lively tune and somber lyrics is what makes “king” a track we’ll be listening to on repeat.
slenderbodies has already collected millions of online streams and a devout fanbase, along with producing two previous catchy singles titled “the one and “take you home” — perhaps you’ll be caught up in their charm, too?
